2. Dog profiles, logs and settings
Tahoo processes the information you enter for your dogs, such as their name, photo, breed, age, weight and characteristics, training goals, custom exercises, progress, journal, health and care records, medication, vaccinations, nutrition, behaviour and walks. A profile may also contain a microchip number, a veterinary telephone number and an emergency contact’s name and telephone number. Only enter another person’s information if you are entitled to do so.
These contents and settings are stored on your device. A Tahoo user account is not required. We do not operate our own cloud service for your app contents, and they are not automatically sent to us. Where information relates to an identifiable person, it is processed to provide the app functions you use under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.
3. Location, steps and maps
When you record a walk and allow location access, Tahoo processes location points, time, duration and distance. Recording may continue during an active walk while your screen is locked. With your Motion & Fitness permission, the iPhone app also measures steps during a walk. Routes and walk logs are stored locally and may be included in backups and transfers between iPhone and Watch.
Tahoo uses Apple Maps to display maps. Your device loads map data from Apple; necessary connection information and information about the displayed map area may be transmitted to Apple. Tahoo displays your route as an overlay. See Apple Maps & Privacy.
Access to location and motion data is based on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw permission in your device settings, which limits recording and step displays. Displaying a walk and its map at your request is part of providing the service under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.
4. Weather and paw safety
Paw safety is switched off by default. If you enable it and permit location processing, the app requests weather information from Apple WeatherKit. Before the request, coordinates are rounded to two decimal places, approximately one kilometre. Apple receives this approximate location and the technical information needed for the connection. Weather results and warning status are processed locally; enabled checks may also run in the background.
This is based on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can switch paw safety off in the app or withdraw location permission. Apple’s processing is also governed by the Apple Privacy Policy.
5. Photos and vaccination document scans
Using the photo picker, you provide selected images for profiles, entries or vaccination documents. This does not give the app general read access to your entire photo library. Scanning a document requires camera permission. Text recognition for vaccination documents takes place on your device; Tahoo does not upload the images to a recognition service.
Selected images that you save may become part of a backup or content you choose to share. Processing provides the function you requested under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; camera access is based on your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Camera permission can be withdrawn in device settings.
6. Apple Health on iPhone and Apple Watch
Exporting walks from the iPhone app to Apple Health is switched off by default. If you enable it and grant permission, Tahoo writes walking workouts with time, duration and distance, including the dog’s name as additional information, to Apple Health. The iPhone app does not request permission to read Health data for this function. Enabling this function also exports previously saved walks that have not yet been exported to Apple Health.
For a walk started on Apple Watch, Tahoo requests both read and write permissions for workouts, walking and running distance, and active energy. These data support recording the walking workout and activity through Apple Health. We do not use Health data for advertising, tracking or data trading, and these data are not automatically sent to us.
The feature requires your Health permission. Where personal data is processed, voluntary use is based on consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR; health data about you requires explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a) GDPR. You can change or withdraw permissions in Apple Health or device settings. Workouts already saved in Apple Health are not automatically deleted when you switch the function off or delete Tahoo entries. Manage and delete those records separately in Apple Health. Synchronisation of Health data between your devices depends on your Apple settings.
7. Calendar, reminders, widgets and Watch
To export an event, Tahoo requests write-only calendar access. Information needed for the selected event, such as title, date, notes and reminder, is saved to your default calendar. Tahoo does not read existing calendar events. Further storage and synchronisation depend on the calendar account you use.
With your permission, Tahoo schedules notifications locally on your device, for example for training, medication or health appointments. No developer-operated push server is used for this. Notifications, widgets, Live Activities and Watch displays may show a dog’s name, training progress, walk details or due medication. System settings let you control the visibility of information while the device is locked.
When you use Apple Watch, iPhone and Watch exchange relevant dog, training, medication and walk data, including recorded routes, through Apple’s device connection. Widgets and app extensions use local shared storage. These functions are provided under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR; calendar and notification permissions are voluntary under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and can be changed in device settings.
8. iCloud backup and your own exports
iCloud backup is enabled by default in Tahoo. When iCloud is available and you have created dog profiles, Tahoo normally prepares a daily backup file in your personal iCloud Drive when the app enters the background. Failed attempts may be retried on the same day; manual exports are separate. The backup includes app records and routes. Photos are included in the automatic backup when their total size does not exceed 50 MB; above that limit, the automatic backup excludes photos. Successful upload depends, among other things, on your connection and available storage.
You can switch iCloud backup off in the app. Switching it off does not delete an existing backup file. You can remove the file using the Files app in your iCloud Drive. We have no access to your personal iCloud storage. Apple processes the data to provide iCloud under its terms and privacy information. The integrated backup supports preserving and restoring your app contents under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Separately, app data may be included in a device backup you have configured.
You can export and share backup files, health summaries, individual images and recaps yourself. The destination, recipient or service you select then receives that content. A shared dog profile may include contact information and the microchip number; the app offers a version without these details. The selected service’s privacy rules also apply to any sharing you initiate.
9. Purchases and local usage counters
Purchases and subscriptions are handled through the App Store. Apple processes your Apple Account, purchase and payment information for this purpose. Tahoo checks the purchase status provided by Apple and stores locally whether access is unlocked and, where applicable, when it expires. This check does not provide us with your payment or credit card details. Unlocking access is based on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR.
The app also keeps simple local event counters, for example for completing onboarding or starting a purchase. The counters contain no user identifier and are not sent by Tahoo to an analytics service or to us. The app includes no advertising or tracking services. Local function checks support our legitimate interest in an understandable and reliable app under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The counters are removed when app contents are reset.
10. Retention, deletion and withdrawing permission
Your app contents remain stored until you delete individual entries, a dog profile or all contents through the app’s deletion function. The full deletion function also removes locally stored images, routes and local event counters and cancels scheduled reminders. You can separately withdraw permissions in device settings; this stops the respective further access but does not automatically erase information already stored.
Copies outside the app’s immediate storage must be managed separately, including the iCloud backup file, device backups, exported files, shared content, calendar entries, Apple Health workouts and data on a paired Watch. Uninstalling the app therefore does not guarantee deletion of every copy on every device and service. Deleting data or the app does not cancel an active subscription.
11. Support and contact
If you contact us, we receive your email address, message and any files you attach. Only send information needed for your request. We use it to respond: under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for contractual matters, otherwise under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR based on our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
Our mailbox uses iCloud Mail, provided by Apple Distribution International Ltd., Hollyhill Industrial Estate, Hollyhill, Cork, Ireland. Apple processes messages and technical connection data. For Apple’s processing, possible transfers outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and the applicable safeguards, see Apple’s privacy policy. A copy of the standard contractual clauses described there can be requested from Apple.
We delete support correspondence when the matter is resolved and no legal retention requirement or specific reason, such as resolving outstanding claims, requires further storage. Where retention is required, further use is limited to that purpose.
12. Your rights and consent
Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction and data portability (Articles 15–20 GDPR). You may object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation (Article 21 GDPR).
You may withdraw consent at any time for the future by disabling the relevant feature or revoking its permission in system settings. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing that occurred before withdrawal. Optional access is voluntary; refusing it may prevent or limit the corresponding feature. Information needed for a requested app feature is used for that feature; there is no legal obligation to provide it.
Use the controls described above to manage data on your device and in your Apple account. We cannot remotely access or erase that data. For information you have sent us, including support emails, or for help, contact norvia_noah@icloud.com.
You may complain to a data protection authority (Article 77 GDPR), including the authority where you live. Our competent authority is the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Gustav-Stresemann-Ring 1, 65189 Wiesbaden, Germany.
13. Website and changes
When you open this page or another Norvia web page, the website privacy policy (German) also applies, particularly to hosting and connection data. We update this app policy when the described features or processing change. The date above identifies this version.
